A Dynamic Space for Community Engagement and Wellness
A well-designed recreation center serves as a vital hub for fitness, community gatherings, and recreational activities. UG Group (formerly 2WR+ Partners) partnered with Troup County Parks and Recreation to transform an existing structure into a state-of-the-art recreation center that meets the county’s growing needs. The project not only reimagined a 40,000-sq.-ft. former Lowe’s building but also added 35,000 square feet of new construction, creating a versatile facility for residents of all ages.
When the Parks and Recreation Department needed to vacate their office within four months, UG Group implemented a phased construction approach using a CM At-Risk delivery method to ensure timely completion. This strategic approach allowed for quick construction and early occupancy, minimizing disruptions while delivering a high-quality community space.
Comprehensive Amenities for Diverse Activities
The new recreation center offers a variety of spaces designed for fitness, sports, and community engagement. The facility includes:
- Parks and Recreation offices
- Aerobics and meeting rooms
- Arts and crafts spaces
- Locker rooms and a concession stand
- Two full-sized basketball courts
- A natatorium for aquatic activities
- A skate park
- An indoor soccer and roller hockey rink
These features ensure that the center caters to a wide range of recreational interests, making it a valuable asset for the community.
Blending Industrial Heritage with Modern Design
To honor LaGrange’s industrial history, UG Group incorporated exposed structures, sun-shading devices, masonry veneers, and expansive windows into the design. These elements create a contemporary yet welcoming atmosphere that reflects both the area’s heritage and the community’s future. The open layout and natural light-filled spaces enhance the overall experience, making the center feel both functional and inviting.
A Lasting Investment in Community Wellness
By designing a recreation center that balances modern amenities, efficiency, and aesthetics, UG Group has provided Troup County with a facility that will serve residents for generations. The center fosters health, wellness, and social interaction, reinforcing its role as a central hub for fitness, recreation, and community-building.
