A State-of-the-Art Learning Environment for Georgia Southwestern University

UG Group (formerly 2WR+ Partners) designed a higher education nursing school at Georgia Southwestern University, seamlessly integrating it with the campus’s neo-classical architecture while introducing modern educational spaces. This multi-building complex enhances healthcare and social sciences education by providing cutting-edge learning environments for students and faculty.

Our team developed two primary buildings—one dedicated to nursing education and another supporting sociology and psychology programs. These facilities promote interactive learning, hands-on training, and research, ensuring that students receive a comprehensive education in both healthcare and social sciences.

Innovative Design for a Higher Education Nursing School

The Nursing Building houses essential academic and training spaces, including:

  • Advanced Nursing Classrooms & Labs – Equipped with the latest technology for hands-on learning.
  • METI Nursing Patient Simulators – State-of-the-art simulation labs on the second floor provide real-world training experiences.
  • 200-Seat Auditorium – Designed for large lectures, conferences, and guest speakers.
  • Rosalynn Carter Museum Wall – A tribute to the former First Lady’s impact on caregiving and mental health.

The Sociology/Psychology Building supports interdisciplinary studies with:

  • The Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving (RCI) – Features a Learning Center, resource library, offices, and a simulation lab.
  • Classrooms & Labs – Includes a computer lab and academic spaces designed for 204 students.
  • Second-Floor Student Lounge with Coffee Bar – A comfortable, collaborative space for students to connect and study.

Blending Tradition with Innovation

While maintaining the university’s historic aesthetic, UG Group introduced modern elements that elevate the campus’s architectural identity. The design incorporates:

  • Varied Brick Patterns & Cast Stone Ribbons – Creating a timeless yet distinctive exterior.
  • Unique Entry Styles – Enhancing visibility and accessibility while complementing the existing campus.

A Lasting Impact on Higher Education

By combining innovative design with practical functionality, UG Group delivered a higher education nursing school that supports future healthcare professionals and social science researchers. The new facilities offer students an advanced, interactive learning experience while strengthening Georgia Southwestern University’s commitment to excellence.
